Can I host a first aid course in my own home or office?Yes! A Red Cross instructor can come to a venue of your choice and teach the course there. This is convenient as it saves travel time and may eliminate the need for a babysitter. Top
When can I host a course? You and your instructor will set up a mutually convenient time. Courses can be held on any day of the week at a time that suits you and your group.Top
Can I get sued for giving first aid?As a citizen of Canada and resident of BC you are protected by the Good Samaritan act. If you travel to other provinces of Canada or other countries the legal situation may be different so find out before you travel. There has never been a successful case in Canada of a member of the public being sued for giving first aid.Top
When will my Red Cross certificate expire? There is a three year expiry on all Red Cross certification courses with the exception of Work Place Emergency First Aid (WEFA) which is two years. If you retake the same course within three years (two if WEFA) you are eligible in certain cases to take a shorter, re-certification course. If you allow your certification to expire, you will need to take the full course again. There is no expiry on participation courses.Top
What happens if I refer a friend to Safe & Sound and they decide to host a course? If the person you referred to us hosts a first aid course, we will send you a special thank you gift! Just make sure your friend tells us that you referred them!Top
At what age can my children start to learn first aid?It is never too early to start teaching your children about safety and they can learn basic first aid skills at a very early age. Even children as young as three years old have been reported to have saved lives! The Red Cross PeopleSavers program is specially designed for elementary school aged children (5-12 years). For children aged 11 and up, the Babysitting course teaches them not only how to be a good babysitter, but how to be safe when home alone.Top
I am still nursing. Can I bring my baby with me to the first aid course?Yes, as long as your baby is not yet crawling! Ideally it is best if you can find a babysitter to attend the course with you so that you can concentrate on the material being taught and practice the skills more easily. There is no charge for your babysitter to attend. If your baby has reached the crawling stage you may like to consider hosting a course at home and having someone to baby-sit your child for part of the time while you take the course.
I am a single parent and I don’t want to leave my kids with a babysitter for the day but I really want to take a first aid course. How can I do this? Why not host a course in your own home? This way you can keep an eye on your kids while you take your course. If your children are very young it may be a good idea to arrange for someone to be in the home with you to look after them so that you can concentrate on the material being taught.Top
