Hosting a first aid course is very easy. You just need to book a date with us and provide a group of people!
The Venue
The venue can be a room in your work-place, church, school or home. There must be washrooms nearby and if possible, kitchen facilities. The room should be clean and contain enough seating for the number of people attending as well as some floor space for the practice sessions.
Getting a group together
Make a contact list. Include co-workers, relatives, friends, babysitters, neighbours, acquaintances from school and clubs etc. Ask everyone you invite if they know someone who might also like to take the course. We need a minimum of 8-10 people to run the course.
Send out invitations by email or mail giving the day, date and time of the course and include a course outline. We can provide an evite and advertising flyer on request. We also encourage you to forward our website address to the people you invite so that people can contact us directly if they have questions.
TIP: I you would like 12 people to attend your course, you will need to invite approximately 20.
Course payments
Participants can register for your course online via our website and pay with a credit card or cheque. This means you don't need to worry about collecting payments! Participant will receive a Red Cross first aid book and certificate included in their course fee.
Host Check List
Two to three weeks prior to the course date:
- Make a list of people who will be attending the course and ensure you have their contact details (telephone numbers, email address etc).
- Remind everyone to register online before the course date.
The day before the course:
Call everyone to confirm they will be attending. Ask if they have any questions and remind them to:
- Wear comfortable clothing.
- Bring their lunch with them (unless other arrangements have been made e.g. a potluck)
- Be on time! They need to arrive 10 minutes before the course is due to start in order to complete the registration process.
On the day of the course:
Make sure that the room to be used for the course is as clear as possible. Remove any unnecessary furniture, plants, animals (!) and breakable ornaments etc. The instructor will arrive 30-45 minutes before the course begins in order to set up the equipment. All you have to do is put the coffee on and relax!
